An action-packed weekend in Fuji International Speedway this weekend as the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia circus arrives for Round 2 & 3 race stop.
Saturday’s Round 2 race started off hazardously as high humidity and fog forces the drivers to start with their wet tyres. It has been a perfect lights-to-flag finish for Chris van der Drift of Team Formax, never being challenged throughout the race.
Martin Ragginger of Team Porsche Holding was undeterred by the track condition, making a strong run from P5 to P3 within the first lap. He pushed hard in the closing laps to finally crossed the line in 2nd place.
The low visibility and slippery track also saw much action among the Pro-Am class pilots, that saw Li Chao of Porsche Beijing Central & Goldenport clinching his first class win of the season, while True Visions Motorsports Thailand’s Suttiluck Buncharoen finished closely behind to clinch 2nd.
Round 3’s race on Sunday saw much battles throughout the grid. Chris van der Drift made a last minute over-taking attempt on the final lap but unfortunately it would not stick, and he had to settle for 2nd place. His excellent form was carried over to the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia & Japan Invitational Race, where he secured 3rd place podium slot.
Chris’s excellent performance at Fuji International Speedway places him on the 2nd spot of the championship table with 57 points, only 1 point shy of the current leader. A strong podium finish on Round 2 also saw Suttiluck Buncharoen tied for top spot on the championship table for Pro-Am class.
